What You Need to Know About DBT Referrals:

“DBT-informed” Therapists & “True” DBT Therapists

TO SUPPORT YOUR TREATMENT, please be aware Non-DBT clinicians, even at doctoral levels in private practices & at medical universities, may not be “versed” in these discrepancies in the DBT world when they are giving you a referral for DBT treatment.

YOU WILL BE EMPOWERED TO KNOW, the RARE, worldwide, & considerably small loving force of fully Linehan DBT trained & certified are the SOLE lead educators & consultants on HOW to give a successful Linehan DBT referral so clients are with a true Linehan-DBT clinician to fit their recovery needs & symptoms. 

Many clinicians are “DBT-informed,” meaning they’ve had a comparably small amount of exposure to “DBT” and/or have received some learning by “non-official” trainers (trainers who have not reached full Linehan board DBT certification, have not been in the DBT field long and/or have NOT been given the “green light” by other official Linehan Board certified DBT clinician trainers to teach DBT to clinicians). “DBT-informed” clinicians certainly may offer some level of support.

However, if you are pursuing “true” DBT due to having struggles that are a fit for DBT, you’d be wisely advised to assure you are with a “true” DBT Linehan-Board Certified therapist who is devoted to the fidelity of Linehan’s DBT for the PROTECTION of its research being applied to YOUR OUTCOMES.

Again, be advised that DBT is a label that was meant to be carefully upheld so that YOUR TREATMENT RECOVERY is MAINTAINED with the COMPLETE QUALITY of CARE that you are both pursuing, investing in and intending to receive when getting DBT.
